WiFi range

WiFi range is the area till where the wireless network would operate. Beyond this stipulated range naturally, it would fail. And in this range, the users who are connected to the network can access the Internet from anywhere. No need anymore to stay stationed to their desks. Now they can walk down to even the canteen and still connect online. And another obvious advantage is that since the network is wireless, there would not be any clumsy cables following you. WiFi is so useful that experts feel that all those who are within the network will definitely be more productive. And thus companies are very much interested.

Now they want to extend this network and see whether if all those who have been excluded can be brought in to it. Is it really possible to extend the WiFi range? Experts feel that this can be done. It becomes possible through a router and also an antenna.

Router: DefCon's Bountiful Router can extend the WiFi range up to 1,200 feet. It is no mean feat, given the present technology. This was achieved by cranking up the power from the typical level of 15 and 17 decibel milli watts (dBm) to 30 dBm, giving the router a maximum range of 1,200 feet. This would definitely help companies, hotels, airports, hospitals, conference hosts and many others.

However there is a better option.

QuickerTek Powerbook antenna: It increases the WiFi range by more than a mile for Apple PowerBook and iBook Owners.

It is also very easy to set up and cheap as well. The small transceiver is as big as an antenna and it clips onto the PowerBook or iBook case. It is easy to travel with and easy to use. It connects through a card that is already installed on the Mac. So even if you on your car and driving to office you can still connect and find out if your colleague has sent you the file he was supposed to in the morning.

It comes with a power converter when working near a power outlet and can also be powered from a FireWire port on the computer.
