Wi-Fi Hotspot

Many businesses have opted to turn their retail space into wi-fi hotspots in order to attract more customers. This concept is easy to understand. Not everyone wants to stay at home just because they are connected to the internet and with 802.11 networking equipment installed on a laptop they can connect just about anywhere that offers wi-fi access.

Here is a list of places that I've found offers a wi-fi hotspot.

  • Local Libraries. Some libraries not only provide workstations that people can use to connect to the internet, they also provide wi-fi for those visitors that have their own wireless devices or laptop computers.
  • Fast Food Restaurants. I've noticed more and more McDonald's and Burger King's offering free wi-fi hotspots for their patrons. Other independently owned restaurants might also offer wi-fi hotspots as a way to attract more patrons.
  • Coffee Shops. Many chain and small sized coffee shops have wi-fi so people can check their Email over a hot cup of Joe, however places like Starbucks only offers wi-fi from a paid service - so it isn't always free!

Wi-Fi hotspots aren't that difficult to find if you pay attention to outside signs which indicate the availability of wireless internet. Now you don't have to be tethered to your house just because you want to compute.
