Hardware for VoIP Services

VoIP is a new method of communicating using the internet. VoIP is an acronym for "Voice over Internet Protocol" and lets users talk over over their broadband internet connection instead of using a traditional telephone.

In order to use a VoIP provider, it requires a few peices of hardware. You'll need:

  • A computer with a broadband connection, such as DSL or Cable.
  • Not required, but a webcam allows you to make calls and see the person your talking with

VoIP still allows you to make phone calls to regular LAN lines, so you don't have to worry about losing touch with people that don't use this service. Some VoIP providers don't even require you to have a broadband connection.

Skype is one of the best known VoIP providers and offers excellent service for reasonable prices.
