What is a DSU/CSU?

DSU/CSU stands for Data Service Unit/Channel Service Unit. In essence, a DSU/CSU serves a modem for digital connections. A DSU/CSU will take the data from computers and encode it and then send it downstream. At the other end of the connection sits another DSU/CSU which translates the message. At this point the data can be deciphered by the end users.
