There are quite a number of game servers and game server rental services available in the United States, offering hosted game servers as well as dedicated game server boxes and collocation service social gaming.

Located in Chicago Illinois in the level (3) Data Center, one of them is operating on a fully meshed tier 1 network and is connected to nearly every major bandwidth provider in the US. Its connectivity with gigabit fiber network offers some of the lowest latency that you will come across. Selecting some of the fastest processors to run their game servers on, their performance is amazing. Many of their dedicated game server plans are also customizable. This means that you have the option of what you actually want instead of what your provider wants to offer you.

Most of such companies directly own all of their servers and switches and if there is any hardware issue, they generally have access and spare parts to fix it. Most of their servers run on the secure and swift operating system SuSE LINUX and have their own connection to the Internet. Some of them own OC-3 line with WilTel Communications and the connection is hooked to a Cisco 7507 router that is also owned by them.

Their Ethernet switches are directly hooked to the Cisco router as well. To keep their customers happy, most of the machines are either dual AMD Athlon units, which are built on Tyan Thunder motherboards or dual Intel Xeon machines. The dual Xeon machines are either Super micro servers or blades in their IBM Blade Server.

Most machines have big RAM and almost all have fast SCSI drives. To assert their influence in the game market, they never fail to support their services round the clock. Spare machines are generally kept ready to deal with a crisis. However, there are exceptions as well. Many end up overloading their servers, leading to poor performance.
