Internet Service Getting Harder To Cancel

Posted by admin, Mon, 09 Apr 07 14:50:32 -0400

According to a new survey from Consumers Union, Internet services are getting harder to cancel for many consumers. Many high speed internet service providers are now making consumers sign service contracts, much like cellular contracts. Terminating service early could result in fees and penalties to the consumer.

This move is being done to help keep "churn" (customers that leave a service) to a minimum. Companies such as Verizon say that these fee assessments are fair because special pricing or other incentives are part of the agreement with the customer. Others say that these fees "deprive consumers of the benefits of competition."

If nothing else, it should be a reminder to consumers to understand the fine print when signing up with any company.
