Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP)

What is Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol?

Also referred to as CHAP - Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol is a method of authentication used by dialup service providers. The main advantage of CHAP is that would allow a subscriber to log onto a remote access system without the need of a terminal screen.

CHAP has always been considered to be a more secure method of authentication than P.A.P. (Password Authentication Protocol).
