Dialup is Dead

Dialup has been on the decline for quite some time. Obviously, over the years, the lure of ever faster connections has made most consumers abandon dialup for the speedy rates of broadband. Dialup is so slow, in fact, that people would rather receive mild torture than have to endure the slow-painting screens.

Checking logs on multiple website recently turns up the fact that dialup is a very low number of visitors indeed. And this isn't refined to one or two websites. Rather, it looks like a trend.

What killed dialup? Slow speeds, obviously, but also the fact that wireless has taken on great popularity. You can use a much faster wireless connection in the places that used to make sense for dialup, so the market for dialup dropped quick. Dialup networks are also expensive to maintain, because so much customer service is required to maintain them.

You still have a small userbase who is clinging to dialup, but their days are numbered. As fewer people subscribe, the network companies have less reason to invest in infrastructure which also sets in motion a decline in quality. Before long, the whole things goes under.
