What is wireless technology? It is something in which people using the computer can connect to each other without the need of wires, which anyways inhibit the mobility to a great extent. For example, if you have 2 rooms in your office and 6 computers then traditionally you need a lot of cables running around to be able to connect them. But not if you are leveraging wireless technology.
As a method of data transport, wireless technology is however in a way similar to wired technology though in application they are miles apart. You will need hardware, a method of transmission and connections on both ends that transform data from human-intelligible to transportable and back. And for both wired and wireless technology, the range of transmission is a major issue. You cannot move your laptop 15 feet from the wall jack, depending on a 10-foot cable. On the other hand, you cannot go out for a jog and expect your in-home cordless phone to keep a connection 5 miles away from its receiver. But if you have either a 20-foot cable or a wireless connector of sufficient power, you can move your laptop 15 feet away from the wall jack. You can be away if you have a cellular phone and still be able to make or take a call provided your service provider has a reasonable antenna set up.
The methods of connection and ranges of service available vary in wireless technology just as they do in wired technology. Home telephones with a wireless or cordless handset have a limited range than cellular phones. Infrared transmissions have a limited range as compared to radio wave including microwave transmissions. Various types of wireless solutions can communicate 10 feet, 10 miles, or with a satellite in orbit.
