Wireless LAN

Wireless LAN's are becoming more popular in many homes and offices. There are many advantages to having a wireless network set up to use the internet and doesn't require a ton of equipment or know how to set up.

Wireless Local Area Networks require the following:

  • High Speed Internet Connection, such as Cable,DSL or Fiber Optics.
  • A Wireless Router
  • Wireless Cards for all computers that you wish to put on a wireless connection.

Once you have all of these required components, you'll need about an hour (perhaps less) to set them up. The high speed internet cable would be plugged into the Wireless Router. Chances are you'll be required to run software on all computers to synch the wireless cards with the 802.11 wireless router and perhaps restart the computers.

Once you've completed all of these steps, you should be able to hook up with your wireless LAN in only a few moments. One thing to consider is that connections speeds could vary and that some wireless telephones could interfere with your signal strength, but all in all it is a convenient way to connect to the internet without being tethered to a wired connection.
