Verizon Brings High Speed Wireless To Savannah, Georgia

October 20, 2006

Verizon is continuing to add wireless broadband internet access throughout the United States. They just announced that they've rolled out its wireless broadband service across the Savannah area, giving southeastern Georgia customers access to the latest high-speed business and entertainment services on their wireless phones, laptop computers and other wireless devices. The technology allows customers to utilize the latest high-speed business and entertainment services on their wireless phones, laptop computers and other wireless devices, with typical connection speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps). Savannah joins other Georgia cities including Atlanta, Macon/Warner Robins and Athens in the company's coast-to-coast broadband network now covering more than half of the population nationwide.

This addition allows subscribers to access V-Cast services like sharing photos, videos and download games, music and other services. Verizon Wireless' broadband coverage will be available in all of Chatham County and the southeastern portion of Bryan County including the cities of Savannah, Pooler, Gardendale and Richmond Hill. Coverage will also encompass Tybee, Wilmington and Skidaway Islands as well as I-95 and I-16 within these counties. Customers that travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will switch seamlessly to Verizon Wireless' existing NationalAccess network in which customers experience average data transmission speeds between 60 and 80 kbps, with bursts up to 144 kbps.
