Dial Up Internet Service ISP

Dial Up Internet Access

One of the longest standing access methods to the internet is Dial up internet access. Dial up internet access uses a modem and a phone line to connect your computer to the world wide web.

Dial up internet access is one of the least expensive ways to connect your computer, but with broadband and cable providers offering introductory pricing and specials, these high speed connection methods may not cost much more than a Name Brand Dial up ISP like AOL or Earthlink.

Here is additional information on Dial Up Internet Access Providers:

  • Some Dial Up Internet Access Providers advertise "unlimited" access. Even though it is advertised as "unlimited", it may be limited to 200 hours monthly. Be sure to read the terms and conditions for details on "unlimited dial up access"
  • Verify that the phone number you are planning on dialing into is not a long distance phone call. Internet Service Providers are not liable for long distance charges that are accrued using their service. If you are not sure, it is suggested that you contact your phone company and ask them directly.
  • If you have only one phone line, it will ring "busy" when you are on the internet.
  • Dial up internet access may have maximum connect times or idle timers to throttle usage.
  • Connection speeds of dial up modems may vary. Your phone line conditions and dial up modem will be the primary factors that determine your connection speed. Weather conditions like rain and snow could also cause a slow dial up connection.
  • There may be computer settings that could cause unexpected disconnections.
  • You may need to redial in order to get connected.

Dial up internet access is still a reliable way to get on the internet, it offers some savings to the consumer and a basic affordable internet connection method. It is also used as a backup if your DSL or Cable goes down.
